Pagoederraga Farmhouse

Rehabilitation of the Pagoederraga Farmhouse into a Residence and Rural Hostel
Refurbishment & Rehabilitation
- Location: Aia, Gipuzkoa
- Date: 2019-2022
- Status: Finished
In this project, a comprehensive renovation has been carried out on the farmhouse to transform it into a rural hostel with an adjacent residence. The intervention strategy for this pre-existing structure, which is over 250 years old, focused on recovering and showcasing the characteristic elements of the “baserri” (traditional Basque farmhouse).
The main body of the farmhouse, which covers approximately 670 square meters, is divided into a ground floor and first floor with equal areas, along with an attic space of 65 square meters.
The rural hostel includes a reception area, an archive, a communal dining room, and kitchen facilities. There is also a studio with a private office and a total of 6 shared rooms, each with its own attached full bathroom, one of which is fully accessible on the ground floor. Additionally, a covered area of 105 square meters is attached to this volume.
Finally, an annex building attached to the main body, sharing a party wall, consists of 80 square meters per floor on the ground floor and first floor. It has been transformed into a one-bedroom residence with a full bathroom and an open kitchen-living-dining space. The design prioritized creating open and spacious areas to showcase the original wooden truss framework.
